viscous

smoldering

oozing through vents to depths

no diver dares

molten

glowing

heat so hot that touching

no midas tries

soldering

joined together by melting

stitching patches of

cooled and cracked

an island chain forming

rock and iron

and the greenest of life

worn smooth by water and time

viscous

air thick with love

and bound by aloha

Vitali Maembe and The Spirits : Music and Dance is meant to be Enjoyed

maembeVitali Maembe and The Spirits: Music and Dance is meant to be Enjoyed

Vitali Maembe is an East African artist known for his music that combines inland and coastal rhythms, poetic and provocative lyrics. He was born in Sumbawanga, grew up in Dar es salaam, graduated from Bagamoyo College of Arts, and lives in Tanganyika, Tanzania.

As for his music involvement, his focus is on awakening the society. “Lyrics provoke discussions in which people find solutions on their own,” he says. But occasionally, he uses music and dance as a therapy and for palliative care.

“All and all I like all other arts and believe music and dance is meant to be enjoyed.”

Event Number One (Released May 15th)

All this in one video you ask?

maui music_openingFinishing up production on the Aloha Maui “Mixed Plate” Music Video Fest and I think I’ve become one with the machine. For better or for worse I am a laptop with magical software. We’ve spent the past 7 days conspiring to create what we hope will be “the” event or at least “an” event of your year. We’re both tired and overheated but we think we might have created something cool, something fun, and something edifying. All this in one video you ask? Well, she’s one hour and fifteen minutes long. Chances are there might be something worthwhile somewhere in there. We’ll be giving away the first 50 copies. So watch out, a couple of strangers might just force a free DVD on you.

“Grow The Change” Work Day at “Ka Hale A Ke Ola” with “Rumi” and friends.

Aloha Folks,

Our overall intention is to establish a communication and resource network.

The campaign actually has three interlocking components. Firstly the Video Fest (which will be a weekly online broadcast) and will showcase diverse bands from around the world with Hawaiian Culture and music as it’s centerpiece thusly perpetuating the Spirit of Aloha and create a worldwide bond between socially and politically conscious bands from around the world. We will also be working with the “Music is the Medicine” Foundation. Musicians in the festival include representatives from Portugal, India, Germany, The Phillipines, the UK, and various and sundry other parts of the world, including Texas.

Secondly there is our fledgling publication Mauisalt Magazine, a quarterly publication which we hope to use as a vehicle to:

1. Promote Hawaiian Culture through its connection to the Ocean

2. Promote the Video Fest and…

3. Serve as an outreach for the many native people who have found themselves homeless on Maui and the Other Hawaiian Islands.

And thirdly, to help establish a warrior sanctuary for sufferers of PTSD (hopefully to be named the Queen Kaahumanu Center, given permission).
